The bandoneon tells its story. Without a German invention, the Argentine tango would not
become what it is today: a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The invention is the ‘little man’s piano’, the
bandoneon – and it originates from the Ore Mountains.
Jürgen Karthe and Fabian Klentzke (Germany), together with María Eugenia
López Pavan and Matias Namad (Argentina), recount how the instrument, with its distinctive sounds, began its triumphant march into
Latin America, is recounted by Jürgen Karthe and Fabian Klentzke (Germany) together with María Eugenia
López Pavan and Matias Namad (Argentina) through entertaining narratives and cheerful melodies.
In a light-hearted mix, the story of the bandoneon is told and its journey from the Ore Mountains to
Buenos Aires is brought to life. The programme features traditional folk tunes from the Ore Mountains, songs and
tangos ranging from Carlos Gardel to Astor Piazzolla.
