Play, working title: The Association of Displaced Persons: The Story of Wenzel Jaksch (German premiere)
The play tells the story of the Sudeten German politician Wenzel Jaksch. During the First Czechoslovak Republic, he championed democratic values and warned early on of Adolf Hitler’s growing power. Jaksch was at odds with Konrad Henlein, who was increasingly espousing fascist ideas.
The production depicts Jaksch’s political struggle at a time when democratic convictions were under threat. His fate illustrates how political forces shifted in the first half of the 20th century. The play forms part of the 2026 annual programme and offers an insight into the development of left-wing politics in the 20th century.
