"In the name of freedom - Taras Shevchenko"

Theatre performance followed by a discussion with artists

Languages: German & Ukrainian

Can you throw the most famous Ukrainian poet, Sarah Wagenknecht, the Virgin Mary and football into the same pot and conjure up a good, spicy dish? Mark Zak manages to do just that. Together with singer and bandura player Svitlana Kavka and under the direction of Alexander Olbrich, the actor known from film and television combines homage to the artist, who was born a serf in 1814, with political satire and stand-up comedy. Sometimes lyrical and thoughtful, sometimes with biting humour, but always playful and highly musical.

The programme uses music (bandura and singing), drama, recitation and satire to present the fascinating biography and poetry of the Ukrainian national poet (1814-1861), who was born as a serf.

The songs - all poems by T. Shevchenko - are in Ukrainian for this evening, the rest is in German, so that although the project is primarily aimed at a German-speaking audience, it will also be of great interest to the Ukrainian-speaking public.
