The place we call "the foreign" is perhaps not foreign at all. You could also say,
"the foreign" is only a question of perspective. Wherever we look, an "other" appears to us as a
"other" appears to us as a "stranger". But aren't we ourselves also "a stranger" in the eyes of "the
Other"?
It is the differences that often hurt us. But they also connect us - in shared
Pain and in the longing dream of belonging.
Fairy tales and stories dissolve invisible boundaries. They connect us in listening and
whisper to us that the so-called "stranger" is only a part of ourselves.

Nazli Çevic Azazi is a theatre teacher, storyteller and children's book author. Trained at the University
of the Arts Berlin, she founded the International Storytelling Centre SEIBA in her native Turkey in 2015
SEIBA International Storytelling Centre in her native Turkey to establish a new storytelling network. For her great commitment
she received the Thuringian Fairy Tale Award in 2017.
