Advertising is no longer merely background noise. It permeates our everyday digital lives just as much as it does physical spaces. From supermarket shelves to smartphones, from feeds and
search queries to navigation routes and private messages, life is becoming a
permanent testing ground. Algorithms organise, analyse and predict. From
averages, probabilities emerge, and from these, models of what is considered
normal.
In ‘aus der welt fressen’, these mechanisms are transposed to a specific location. From the voices of advertising specialists, surveyors, market researchers,
residents, urban planners and algorithmic systems, a
polyphonic picture emerges of a model city in which the centre of the norm and normality is
constantly being recalculated.
A production by Johannes Hoffmann and the WÜST collective in cooperation with the
Theaterinitiative Burgenland. Awarded the Grand Arts Grant for
the Performing Arts by the Province of Burgenland 2023. Funded by the Province of Burgenland,
